"Bradford is a leader in construction in the University and College market."

Commodore Barry Elementary School
Bradford Construction Corporation is the construction manager of this new K through 8 elementary school construction project in Philadelphia. The Commodore Barry School is designed for 646 students and is being constructed at the site of the old school building destroyed by fire. The structure is four stories with a total of 104,335 sq. ft. The project is LEED Certified at the Silver Level (33-38 points).
As the CM, Bradford was responsible for immediate and measureable impact on the buildings' performance. A maximum use of daylight, energy and water efficiency, maximum use of quality indoor air and reduced light pollution were considered for the construction of this project. Recycled materials were used, heat island effect mitigated, light pollution reduced, and construction waste recycled.
The new school building houses two pre-kindergarten classrooms, three kindergarten classrooms and three 1st- through 8th-grade classrooms – 24 classrooms in total. Other spaces in the building will be for special education, Family Life Management, small group and multiple H/C classrooms, an art, music, science library (IMC), a kitchen, a multipurpose room accommodating a cafeteria and auditorium, a gymnasium and school administration offices. Mechanical equipment will be installed at the basement level and on the roof.
The project is currently in closeout phase.

William Ziegler Elementary School
Bradford Construction Corporation working with project CM STV, Inc. oversaw new building and upgrading of the existing 21,150 sq. ft. structure for this elementary school in Philadelphia. Originally constructed in 1956 for a student capacity of 282, improving the facilities to accommodate the school’s current 400-student enrollment (K through 8) presented some challenges. For instance, the two-story steel and concrete block school building is sheathed in brick, and the new addition must match the existing brick veneer. Also, the original building consists only of classrooms and administration areas and is not handicap accessible.
The modern addition to the old structure includes a library, gymnasium with locker rooms, cafeteria with full-service kitchen and a theatrical stage. Twelve new classrooms are being constructed, as well as a science lab and a technology classroom. The school will be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant with the installation of a new main entrance at street level. This enhancement will provide handicap access to the addition via new ramps connecting the new building to the existing structure, thereby allowing ADA-mandated access throughout both buildings. Handicap-accessible toilet rooms are being built, too. The new building also will have an elevator.
After the new addition is completed, work will commence on a major renovation to the existing school building that will include the re-configuration of existing classrooms, asbestos abatement, upgrades to all finishes and the modernization of existing toilet rooms. Both the old and new buildings will be equipped with the latest telecommunication systems as set by industry standards and by the Philadelphia School District Information Technology Department.
